SEATTLE -- The Fauntleroy-Vashon-Southworth ferry route and the Seattle-Bremerton routes will return to normal service Tuesday morning with the ferry Chelan leaving dry dock ahead of schedule.

As mentioned here on Friday, the Fauntleroy-Vashon-Southworth ferry runs are down to 2 boats through mid-February, starting today, because repair work is reducing the number of ferries available systemwide.

The county once before ran ferries, only to be rescued by the state. Now the state is too broke to keep the passenger boats running, and the county has got the bug again. It's expensive, there are other solutions, and Vashon Islanders were once dead set against passenger-only ferries. But hey, nostalgia springs eternal.
