State to rebid ferry construction

The state ferry system said Thursday it will rebid the job of building a new 50-car ferry for the Port Townsend-Keystone route. It rejected a $26 million bid from Todd Shipyard that was $9 million higher than the state estimated.

Yesterday, I wrote about how the Todd submitted a bid to build a 50-car ferry and the bid of $26 million was almost $10 million higher than what the state expected. Todd Pacific Shipyards of Seattle's proposed bid price of $25,985,125 to construct a 50-car ferry for Washington State Ferries was much higher than the $16.8 million estimated by state engineers.

We reported here on Jan. 20 that it appeared wi-fi service had finally begun - albeit without fanfare - on the Fauntleroy-Vashon-Southworth ferry run. Today, 2-plus weeks later, the vendor, Parsons, just issued this announcement confirming it had indeed launched in mid-January.
