I was disappointed to see the Obama Administration in the 2010 federal budget proposed the elimination of significant preservation funding that comes through relatively small programs such as Save America’s Treasures and Preserve America.  These two programs have had a big impact in our state, and locally in support of important work on the 100-year-old tugboat Arthur Foss, Northwest Railway Museum’s “Messenger of Peace” chapel car, and our own “Destination Heritage” guide to historic places in King County.

Local transit gets 60% of money but serves less than 3% of all trips

In a new WPC study released today, we find that transit agencies in the Puget Sound region collect two-thirds of all transportation taxes and fees but only serve less than 3 percent of all trips.

•    Over the last twenty years, total transportation spending has risen from $1.57 billion every two years to $4.78 billion. That is nearly a 200 percent increase in transportation taxes and fees collected in the central Puget Sound region.

Traffic congestion on highways around Seattle ranked 9th worst in the country

In its annual scorecard, INRIX ranks highways around the Seattle region with the 9th worst traffic congestion in the country (same rank as the previous year).

The Council's agenda ranges from job training to pedestrian improvements to a pledge to commit the city to zero carbon emissions.
